Privacy Policy

Last Updated: March 17, 2026

1. Overview

Lil' Brackets is a free-to-play bracket experience designed for parents to set up and supervise play for children. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, how parental consent works, and what rights parents have.

We do not sell, rent, or trade your data to third-party marketers. We collect only the information reasonably necessary to operate the service, maintain accounts, store bracket selections, and provide parent-facing controls.

2. COPPA Notice

Lil' Brackets is intended to comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act and the COPPA Rule. We do not collect contact information (names, addresses, phone numbers) for children under 13. We only collect a non-PII nickname and tournament selections.

Parents create and control the account. Children do not independently register for the service, and we require a parent's affirmative consent before collecting a child's nickname and picks.

3. Information We Collect

3.1 Information We Collect From Parents

We may collect the following information from a parent or legal guardian:

  • Email address used for authentication and account access.
  • Parent display name, if provided during onboarding or account setup.
  • Digital signature entered during onboarding, which we use as the record of the parent's affirmative consent.
  • Technical and security information needed to operate and protect the service.

3.2 Information We Collect From Children

We collect only the minimum child-related data necessary to run the bracket experience:

  • A nickname selected by the parent for the child profile.
  • The child's tournament selections and related bracket progress.
  • Avatar choices or profile presentation settings selected within the app.

We do not collect a child's real name, home address, phone number, email address, precise location, or social-media contact information.

4. How We Use Information

We use collected information to:

  • Authenticate the parent account and maintain access to the service.
  • Create and manage child profiles under parent control.
  • Store and display bracket selections, scores, and family leaderboard results.
  • Maintain security, reliability, debugging, and legal compliance.

We do not use child profile data for behavioral advertising, third-party marketing, or any unrelated commercial profiling.

5. Verifiable Parental Consent

5.1 How Consent Is Collected

During onboarding, the parent is presented with an abbreviated disclosure and asked to type their name as a digital signature. That digital signature serves as the parent's affirmative consent for the collection of the child's nickname and picks.

5.2 Consent Record

We document this digital signature as our verifiable parental consent mechanism for the data practices described in this policy. Parents may later review or request deletion of child profile information through the service.

6. Third Parties and Infrastructure

Service Providers and Sports Data

We use secure infrastructure providers (Neon, Vercel) and public sports APIs (ESPN). We do not sell, rent, or trade your data to third-party marketers. These providers may process data on our behalf for hosting, storage, delivery, and sports data presentation. We expect our vendors to handle information securely and only as necessary to support the service.

7. Parental Rights

Parents may, subject to applicable law:

  • Review the child-related information associated with their account.
  • Correct or update a child's nickname or profile settings.
  • Delete a child profile and associated picks.
  • Request that we stop retaining child-related information going forward.

If a parent revokes consent or requests deletion, we may remove the child profile or disable associated features that depend on that data.

8. Security and Retention

Security Practices

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect information from unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction.

Retention

We retain information only for as long as reasonably necessary to operate the service, maintain account integrity, satisfy legal obligations, resolve disputes, or enforce our agreements. When data is no longer needed, we delete or de-identify it where appropriate.
